Picture of Casey Remrov Vormer, the pencil artist behind Remrov's Artwork

About the artist

Casey "Remrov" Vormer is a self-taught pencil artist based in Montreal. He specializes in hyper-realistic drawings of everything he finds interesting.

Born on the seventh hour of the seventh day of the seventh month of 1977 in Apeldoorn, The Netherlands, Casey was obsessed with drawing as soon as he was old enough to hold a pencil. He spent much of his childhood silently in his own world, studying the details that fascinated him. He learned to understand English in addition to Dutch from watching movies.  His thirst for knowledge, combined with a photographic memory, ignited his passion for astronomy, physics, zoology, and medical science. He knew he was different, isolated, and found it challenging to communicate in words.

Diagnosed with classic autism at the age of 21, he acquired greater self-understanding and also the ability to have conversations with others. He also noticed that when he was drawing, people left him alone and didn't expect him to communicate, which made him feel safe. Casey has an incredible eye for detail and the ability to hyperfocus, which is reflected in his drawings. A huge animal lover, he has always found it easier to connect with animals, as they don't use verbal communication or complex facial expressions.

Since immigrating to Montreal in 2013, Casey has devoted himself to his award-winning art, following his calling to draw whatever excites his passion, primarily animals but also trees, buildings, and less often, people. He recently drew a 3 by 10 feet cityscape of Montreal that has received worldwide attention. He is also the author of the highly acclaimed book, Connecting with the Autism Spectrum. He is looking forward to creating bigger, more detailed, and expressive works of art.

Remrov's Artwork can be found on many social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Tiktok, where he quickly gained 225K followers. He is devoted to sharing his art with the world, and also to raising awareness and understanding about autism.

Connecting with the Autism Spectrum

In 2020 Casey was hired by publishing company 'Callisto' to write a book about autism called 'Connecting with the Autism Spectrum'. It was a great opportunity for him to share his experiences as an autistic person, and hopefully to help a lot of people to better connect and understand with autistic people.  His book was selected as one of the 15 best books about autism in 2021 by Choosing Therapy. It is available on Amazon.
